grandpa's geeky chic

three posts in the past week is a clear signifier that yes, i am still on winter break :).

i thought i needed a lighter post to offset the heavier ones that have dominated the past few.

long, long ago (as in, many months) i posted on exploring the "trends" (used lightly) in chicago and adopting them as my own. i recently have investigated another trend: geeky chic.

geeky chic is a brand new term to me, however geeky chicness has been dominating chicago (and even parts of pella, ia) for quite awhile.

geeky chic is specifically used in reference to eyewear that is a throwback from the 50's and normally associated with the world of nerdom. however, nerdom has entered the chic zone and hipsters (i.e. the "coolest of cool") are seen sporting bold, thick, eyeglasses.

my new glasses are a mild geeky chic (the goal: fashion for many years). however, when i wear them, some days i feel too geeky to be chic and others, too chic to be geek. but, i like them, they hide my horribly thick lenses and, i think they look good on me :).

i also found a photo of my grandfather circa 1960's. he was wearing an almost identical pair.

so here they are, the geekiest, the chiciest (but moderately so):

and, for entirely non-related fun, here is a photo of my aunt and uncle's cat. her name is nellie:
