today, as i was walking from class to the bus, i was turning a corner and accidentally turned in front of a woman and cut her off.
now, this happens all the time in chicago because we can't read each other's minds about where we're heading on the sidewalk. usually when this happens, we smile, apologize, say nothing, nod, a variety of nonchalant expressions communicating, "sorry about that" or "i don't care" or something.
today, the woman pointed her finger at me, looked me in the eye and said, "you are RUDE!" and kept looking at me to respond.
in this moment, i realized that either she has had a terrible day to respond like this or is suffering from a mental illness and thus wouldn't respond well to whatever i said next.
so, i quietly said, "i'm sorry," and walked on.
to which she shouts down the sidewalk of michigan ave, "you're an asshole!!"
...
honestly, i was quite shaken and scared. i'm glad she didn't come after me. she very well could have if she was suffering from a mental illness.
i prayed that jesus' blood cover and cleanse me. i told myself it's okay to feel hurt, but that she is probably hurting more.
i was scared. i was more scared to think that i am potentially entering the mental health field. can i do it?
...
on a lighter note, here are two highlights from my thanksgiving break:
1. my uncle al getting a fire extinguisher from the seed corn plant (he works there, he wasn't stealing). this was the first thanksgiving where we deep-fat fried the turkey. i found out this was a potentially dangerous, fire causing mode of turkey-cooking. i found that to be humorous. so here was al, taking all precautions. when all was over, there were no explosions and it was the best turkey i've ever eaten!

2. this is my youngest second cousin, alivia. she is, simply, adorable.
