tonight i came home with a free, half full bottle of wine from work. some of our clients were in the wine business and left several bottles for our consumption. so, after work, i went to my bus stop to wait and i sat down on the doorstep that was right by it (the business wasn't opened). i looked down at my frumpy khaki's, felt the ache in my back, looked at the bottle of wine on the ground beside me... and i felt like a real "workin'" girl who's gotta do dishes to survive...
i also felt like an alcoholic bum sitting on the sidewalk of the city with my wine... (no one really sits on city sidewalks except bums. this is rather unfortunate because sometimes you just want to sit and there is no bench) both were delightful to imagine.
then i got on the bus, wine in hand, and a random, obnoxious guy (who's on almost every bus, i swear ;)) asked me, loudly, to "giv' me summa that drink!" and then patted me on the back as i walked by.
i need to add this to the list of unwritten CTA bus rules:
273) do not blatantly carry alcohol onto a vehicle of mass transit. it is a magnet for annoying men to comment loudly. it also carries all kinds of assumptions. particularly when wearing frumpy khakis.
(...now that i think of it... it may very well be against the written rules of mass transit to bring alcohol on... no wonder the bus driver stared me down... oops...)
oh well, i'm going to pretend that it was very expensive wine and that i am now very classy now that i have a very expensive bottle of wine in my refrigerator.
today one of my refugee client's kinda-sorta-in a teensy way told me how to do my job (i was going to include one copy of his social security card, but he said there needed to be two). humbling.
this evening, i was "kitchen lead". yes, i panicked too when i first read this. but, that basically means you do dishes. lots of them. and get sprayed in the face at random times due to an upturned spoon. which is mostly delightful to me and makes me giggle. luckily, i like to do dishes that aren't mine. it's very satisfying... you scrub off the food and it's gone! clean! if only therapy was like that. a client comes in, i spray them with some water, dunk them into our soapy mix and then into the sanitizer and then run them through the dishwasher for good measure. they come out damp, but squeaky clean!
hm... that would be interesting. i would definitely need a more heavy duty apron than the one i wore tonight.
did you know that food providers (like sysco) put this certain chemical in their foods that make them weigh more (thus cost more) but it shrinks the food down to normal size when cooked (thus you don't get what you pay for)??? brilliant but greedy.
speaking of food, i am currently struggling to take multivitamins. they are far too large. so i tried to mush them up and mix them with my vanilla and almond oatmeal.
yuck. don't try it. and don't bring alcohol on cta buses.
gosh, i'm exhausted. good night :).
